PATIENT SUCCESS STORIES

PATIENT SUCCESS STORIES If you’re like most diabetes educators, you help your patients take ownership of their clinical outcomes—guiding them through any roadblocks, and sharing in their successes.

With the MiniMed® 530G with Enlite® on the market for just over a year now, you’ve asked us for real-world examples of how this innovative technology is being leveraged to achieve successful outcomes in patients just like yours. We’re listening: This InControl column is dedicated to patient success stories on diabetes therapy—especially those in which diabetes education played a pivotal role (and when doesn’t it?)

In this first installment, we share with you the story of a patient with type 1 diabetes who, after a 50-year journey, is feeling better than ever—thanks to her care team and the new advancements in technology. Plus: Find out how you can take part in Medtronic Diabetes’ first-ever online interactive case study.

We encourage you to share your own success stories. Please send the details to IntheKnow@medtronic.com.

FINALLY FEELING BETTER THAN EVER: A 50-YEAR JOURNEY WITH DIABETES

Kitty Castellini has more than 50 years of experience with diabetes, starting when doctors diagnosed her with “sugar diabetes” at the age of 2. After enduring many diabetes-related complications over the years, she underwent a pancreas transplant in 2004.

Nine years later in 2013, Kitty’s transplanted pancreas failed and her type 1 diabetes returned. A short time later, her endocrinologist initiated therapy with the MiniMed® 530G with Enlite®, and today—with the help of her care team—Kitty’s diabetes has become easier to manage and she is feeling better than ever. “I am still determined not to let diabetes get the best of me,” she says.

PLUS: CHECK OUT OUR FIRST-EVER INTERACTIVE CASE STUDY

We couldn’t think of a better place to share with you the exciting news that Medtronic Diabetes has launched its first-ever interactive case study. The case features a real patient with type 1 diabetes, celiac disease and a history of frequent severe hypoglycemia who transitions from multiple daily injections and stand-alone CGM to MiniMed® 530G with Enlite® therapy.

Be among the first to view this self-paced online case study, which puts you in the driver’s seat. Follow the patient over a 2-month period and answer questions about the therapy decisions you would make if faced with a similar scenario. You will find out how the patient adapts to the Enlite sensor and the Threshold Suspend alarm, and you will learn how adjusting device settings leads to improvements in therapy.

Check out the interactive case study here—and please let us know what you think!
